Where to Get HHA Training in New York

Job opportunities for home health aides (HHAs) are abundant! From a 2010 report by the Bureau of Labor, an estimated 1,878,700 positions where created or filled for people who are home health aides and personal care assistants.

This fact makes it the second largest group of jobs that are available within the nursing industry. You can find plenty of opportunities for HHA training in New York.

Furthermore, in New York State the occupational growth projection of HHAs during 2010 through 2020 is 45% – per data from the Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute.

Before getting a job as a HHA , find out where you can get the proper home health aide training to help lead you to a successful career.

In order to begin your HHA career on the right foot, you’ll want to make sure you get proper home health aide training. In New York, there are many places where state-approved training is available.

To work for an employer that utilizing federally funded programs (i.e. Medicare and Medicaid), New York state approved HHA training programs have a minimum of 75 hours for training, which include 16 hours clinical training and 12 hours of continuing education over a 12 month period.

Unity Health System

At the home health care division of Unity, qualified applicants can attend the Home Health Aide Training Program for free!

Upon successful completion of the program, you will receive HHA certification approved by the state of New York, earn a financial stipend and a job offer.

If you accept a job with Unity and work for Unity at Home for six months, you will then earn an additional stipend!

Located in Rochester, Unity’s HHA training program will provide you with the education and training that you need to qualify for certification and have a successful career.

CenterLight Health System

The CenterLight Health System offers a free 3-week home health aide training program held in both the Bronx and Brooklyn, and is New York State Department of Health approved.

A combination of classroom and hands-on training will give you what you need for a successful HHA career.

If you complete the training and pass the final exam, you may also be offered employment through Best Choice Home Health Care.

FedCap Home Care

FedCap Home Care holds a comprehensive NY State approved 3-week HHA training program. Aside from the book fee of $40, the tuition is free for eligible candidates.

To be eligible for the program, you must be at least 18 years old, be able to read at the 6th grade level or higher, complete a free physical and various background checks

Once you have completed the training, you may be offered work at one of the FedCap location in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens or Manhattan.

Partners In Care

Partners In Care, subsidiary of the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSHY), provides training for free to receive certification as a home health aide.

The training program provides an additional 30 hours of classroom instruction beyond the 75 hours as required by New York State.

You will receive instruction in specialty areas which includes working with children and babies, hospice care, and care of those who are cognitively impaired.

If you decide to work for the VNSHY after completion of the program, you will also receive two additional days of training every year for continuing education and development.
